Course Description

:

This course is designed to provide graduate students with the practical and application of a wide range of instructional technologies in education.  The course also provides a basic overview of the key concepts in media education, the various approaches to media education, and the evaluation and assessment of media resources and productions.

Course Goals

:

At the end of the course, the graduate students are expected to know and understand the following;

·      Synergy among technology, media, curriculum and instruction;

·      Synergy between media literacy and information literacy;

·      Mental and emotional processing of children and adults as they interact with media and Internet;

·      Processes of how media and Internet produce messages and meanings

·      Processes of analyzing, evaluating and creating multi-media products

·      Integration of Information and Communication Technology for Education (ICT4E) and Media and Information Literacy (MIL) frameworks across the curriculum;

·      Critical and ethical use of media and Internet in the classroom.

Course Methodology

:

·         Learning activities such as lecture-discussion, experiential activities and productions, small group discussions and individual presentations will be employed to deepen course content and stipulate personal reflection and group interaction.
