CA131 is intended to introduce the student to the art and science that is Photography. It presents the concept of mastering the visual language of images instead of merely memorizing buttons and functions found in equipment and software. Photography is also the very foundation in which videography and cinematography are built, which means its importance can never be overemphasized. Students will be involved in learning the basic theories and principles of how light creates the image that the camera has to record, to taking part in exercises and activities, all the way to the final stages of image manipulation and output

Course Description:

 

Digital imaging is a three unit course designed to expose and immerse the student in the field of digital imaging, covering the entire spectrum of skills and techniques needed in digital photography and digital image manipulation. Students will shoot with professional level camera and lighting equipment and will edit photos using Adobe Photoshop software package

 

Course Objectives:

 

The course will expose the student to techniques and concepts on photography that will enable her to be able to communicate artistically and creatively using the medium. She will be equipped with the working knowledge and hands-on experience on the utilization of photography tools and processes to be able to address the different facets of shooting digital photos, namely composition, lighting, optical and photochemical processes and digital image manipulation

 

Course Activities:


There will be in-class lectures by the teacher and invited guest speakers to introduce the concepts and techniques pertaining to particular subjects. Along with regular viewing and evaluation of their works, the students shall be kept updated by doing practical exercises, attending and participating in exhibits, online groups, etc. A proposed exhibit/contest may even cap this semester

 

Course Requirements:

 

As in all other classes, attendance and participation in class and activities are necessary. This will be checked accordingly and will be an important factor in the computation of the class standing grade.

Other requirements: Photographic output, individual midterm project, final photo essay, and portfolio.
